How Does a Log Splitter Works

Whatever the sizes and the models, all are ready to support you, your job is to purchase the right splitter, and before that, you have to know how does a log splitter work? Different types of log splitters can perform and work differently, so we have good knowledge about different kinds of splitters first. Here I am trying to give you some idea about the kinds of this device-

Horizontal VS Vertical Log Splitter

We can generally see two types of splitter like-Horizontal and vertical. Some splitters can do both and are larger, extremely powerful, and bulky.

Horizontal Splitter:

This is the most common design to fix your chunk that requires lifting in position. The horizontal splitter may be gas, electric, or manually powered to allow you to do your job efficiently.

Vertical Splitter:

Within a fixed time, when you need to cut a large amount of hardwood, a vertical splitter is an excellent choice for you. This device is gas-powered and designed to keep your log at the base level. Don’t try to lift the log for splitting. For this, this device is very comfortable for homeowners.

Before choosing, the splitter must give your attention to the types of logs and also the number of logs. The working process is not the same for all kinds of splitters. The log size, type of wood, and age of the wood are all we have to consider when we operate our device.

Gas-powered Splitter:

How does the gas splitter work? The gas splitter is powered by a 4-stroke gas engine that can build pressure with the hydraulic oil pump. The high-pressure oil can activate the valve when the pressure is built, which releases the hydraulic cylinder to split the log. You can see the gas power splitter is smaller in size and portable and can perform personal splitting. Have the capacity to cut the log both horizontally and vertically.

Electric Splitter:

You can see that this electric splitter is lightweight and smaller in size compared with the gas-powered splitter. Suitable for residential use due to the compact design, noise-free, easy to transport, and stored nicely. These tools run directly through a standard 110/120 Volt outlet; they can run indoors without the fumes from an engine. You can handle these tools efficiently, splitting the average-sized logs for firewood by their power.
This tool depends on the power of hydraulics; that’s why the tubes and fluid levels should check regularly. And also, check the cords for wear as well.

Manual Hydraulic Splitter:

These splitters directly depend on the pressure of the workforce to the hydraulic oil for splitting. The efficient splitter can work horizontally or vertically and use foot paddles or handles for hydraulic pressure movement. The hydraulic splitter is perfect in size for small to medium-sized logs and smaller firewood splitting jobs. Suitable for drastically cutting your wood pies and, at the same, doing your job within a short period. Remember that all the moving parts are lubricated regularly, and the spring of the tools should check and replace over time. Another thing is that the hydraulic splitter contains a hydraulic pump. The sizes of that hydraulic pump vary according to the models of the splitters.

Three-point Splitters and Skid Steer Splitter:

This powerful splitter can fix directly with the tractor, bobcat, and front-end loader. This device can handle a huge amount of different-sized logs. Actually, very popular for farm work and also for commercial business purposes. There are many parts of these machines, like hydraulic hoses, moving parts, and fluids, which should maintain adequately.

Kinetic Splitters:

When you use this splitter, you can see that it uses gas or electricity to power it. But this device can store energy by spinning flywheels. This power tool can work very quickly and split both large dry and green wood at the same time.

Screw Type Splitter:

Screw-type log splitter powered by either electric or gas engines. When you operate this device, power the turning of a screw head and push the log against to split. The screw-type splitter can work depending on your own need. These are highly useful and powerful tools, and the main advantage is, you can customize the design according to your needs.

If you are confused about the uses of the splitter and which splitter is for you, this article is beneficial for you and can also solve your curiosity. So, before purchasing, the splitter must go through this article and learn about the working process of a log splitter. Remember, all sizes of a splitter are not suitable for you. Depending on the uses, you have to choose the device. In my view first I have to decide how big a splitter do I need for me?
