What Size Log Splitter Do I Need

Let’s See What Log Splitter Tonnage is?

The amount of force the machine can give to split your logs is the amount of force. High tonnage means the device can exert more power, cut the logs within a short period, and split hard or bigger types of logs. Soft and short kinds of logs need less tonnage splitter, taking more time to split. Generally, 6 to 60 tons splitter we can see in the market. So, which one I will buy or which one suits me depends on many factors. Nothing to worry about; here I am showing you the right path to get the answer and enjoy your winter season with family.

The selection of the splitter depends on the following factors:

Type of the Log:

Choose your splitter depending on the hardness of the log that you have to cut. The amount of the tonnage of log splitter varies due to the hardness or the softness of the wood. Soft type wood like birch, poplar, and pine can easily split with less tonnage and pressure. Where maple, oak, and hickory type hardwood need more tonnage and pressure to split.

Size of the Log:

When you want to purchase your splitter, see the width of the widest logs from your whole bundle of logs Because a more powerful machine is needed for bigger diameters. A 35-ton unit is required if you want to split 24-36″ diameter logs; on the other hand, for your home, generally you have to split softwoods like 6″ diameter; at that time, you can use a 4-ton unit log splitter.

Green or Seasoned Wood:

Determining the force you have to use while cutting the logs is based on these two factors. Fresh logs are generally greener and wetter and need more tonnage to split it than dry seasoned wood. Sometimes an extra 10-ton force is required for the green wetter wood pies.

Amount of Wood:

How many tons of log splitter do I need, most of the time depending on the amount of wood. That means you have to check the device’s automatic ram return time. If you cut a massive amount of wood within a short time, you can enjoy it at the hot temperature in the long run. Based on the cycle time: That means the device needs to split the amount of time. The first log splitter is a better choice. 15 to 16 second cycle time is a common and reasonable choice.

Based on the Average Log Length:

When you decide to buy your new splitter, see the average log length of the woods you want to cut. The machine will be useless if it cannot reduce the long logs. When you make the longer logs shorter, it will take your time. So split the logs vertically and use such types of larger gas log splitter, which can also split the logs vertically and horizontally.

So, the above discussion will show you lots of factors that will help you make your decision. But I don’t think that the big unit is a better selection. Instead, sometimes bog devices are not always user-friendly. Only if you have to cut big logs only at that time, you can choose a big splitter. Many tools with a high tonnage generally come with a low cycle time compared with other smaller devices.

All the factors must select the perfect sizes and tonnage of splitters. These factors will solve your problems. Just try to collect your data and follow my article.
